My trip to the Mid-west

Didn't turn out anything like I hoped. Here are a few words to describe the trip...

Regret
Making the best of the situation
Her controlling
Her disrespect
Embarrassment
Hunger
Her dishonesty
Her betrayal

I'm not sure if my friend and I will still be friends when this is over. I vacillate between trying to forgive and work things out and just cutting her off. I never had any idea that she could behave like this. I learned some very valuable lessons.

NEVER rent a car when the person who is supposed to pay for it can't.
Be very CAREFUL who you travel with.
ALWAYS get the rental car insurance.

Crazy year

And personally, I can't wait for it to be over. I'd love to take a six month vacation...or a six month nap.

Major stress on the job
A major car repair--rebuild the transmission
Major dental work
Lost my job because I reported the manager was abusive
The dog died
And the fridge is broken

We got Buffee when she was five years old. She is now 13. She had such a hard time breathing this last winter that we wondered how much longer she would be around and if she would survive another winter. She has been steadily going down hill the last few months, not able to walk with Tom which she loved to do. The vet offered to put her to sleep, but Tom wanted her to go quietly at home with her family around. So the vet did what he could to make her comfortable. Wednesday she passed away with the kids petting her and loving her.

We'll always remember her facial expressions and how she could talk to us. She was a man's dog and would follow Tom around the house when he came home. As the kids got to be adult-sized she would follow them around more, too. She was alpha dog no matter where she went. She had a lot of poise and confidence. Tom and I were "Mommy and Daddy" while the kids were "Puppies." Buffee was a real sweetheart. She was my first dog, and I never knew I could love a dog that much.

And the fridge...of course, it breaks on Friday just before a holiday. So it will take until Wednesday to get someone to come check it out. So, I pull out a cooler and load it up with ice and all the crucial things. Fortunately, a repairman's parents live in our ward and we met him recently. So I called the parents, who gave me his phone number and I left a message. Later, I called the company and set an appointment (for Wednesday). Well, the repairman took time to come by last night before he went home from work. Thank goodness for small blessings. He was able to diagnose the fridge, and told me that if we manually defrost the freezer the fridge should work fine for the time it will take to get the part in. I'm so glad he was able to come last night instead of living out of coolers until Wednesday to find all that out.

I have to acknowledge the tender mercies...but I still want a six month nap.
