So Far So Good

A couple mornings this week I woke up with a headache. So, I decided it was time to check my blood pressure. It was 99/78. Then I decided it's time to cut my pill in half and see what happens. I took half yesterday and half today. So far it has stayed low. This afternoon it was 111/79 and my pulse has come down, too. It was 68 this afternoon when I checked my bp. Yahoo! I can't wait to be done with the meds! And Yahoo! The stuff with the naturopath is working!

I have been so frustrated this last week and a half because my weightloss hasn't progressed very well. I'm chalking it up to being a woman. So, I've been looking at ways I am progressing to help fight the frustration.

At the beginning of the year I looked in several stores and could not find a size 18 pants anywhere. I'm hoping to make the switch from W sizes to Misses sizes at 18. Anyway, I gave up on the stores and this week I checked my closet. I found 3 pairs of 18W capris and one pair of 18 capris. I'm set for spring! The 18W are just right, but the 18 is just a bit snug still. I'll just keep sewing tucks in my work pants until next fall when I can wear 14's (hope, hope, hope!)

I also found that this blouse is TOO big! I last wore it on October 11 when I was sustained in my new calling. I happily tossed it on the DI pile.

I've lost a total of 28 pounds so far...14 since starting with the naturopath.

Lastly...

Who bakes at midnight? Busy Relief Society presidents, that's who!

Don't these look too good to be gluten-free? Believe me, they taste too good to be. Thanks to Mary B for the recipe. It converts to gluten-free very well.

Mission Papers

President Christensen called tonight to finish off the mission papers and said he would be sending them in tonight! We expect to have a mission call in a couple weeks! It will be so nice to find out where and when Tim is leaving!

Wooohoooo!

New Temple Announced

I'm pretty excited about this one because it touches my past. I spent 5th through 9th grades living in Payson, Utah. We moved to Cache Valley for my high school years and my parents moved back to Payson right before my sophomore year of college. They lived there 10 years that time.

The new temple will be just down the street from the second house my parents owned in Payson. It will be 1 mile from the first house and only ONE QUARTER MILE from the second house.

Payson is a nice little town. Next to Provo it's one of my favorites. I consider Provo to be my hometown. Since we lived in so many towns I figure I'm allowed to choose mine. lol

I'm excited that the people from Spanish Fork to Nephi will have a temple closer to them!

Mothers!

To all mothers...Keep teaching your kids! Someday you'll get text messages like this..."And thanks for making me learn how to do housework growing up. Today I showed one of my rommates how to use the dishwasher."

Beans, beans, the magical fruit...

I love beans. I have ever since my mission. There in Honduras...where we ate beans for practically every meal...you'd think I'd get tired of them. But, no! I came home a dyed-in-the-wool bean lover! And they love me, too. I've never had a problem with the "magical" properties of beans. Yummy!

Goal Update

I will do most tracking of my goals offline, but I will be posting progress photos on my blog this year. They will be where my book list was last year (scroll down and look on the right.) The first two photos are there now.

I have been working on weightloss for way too long and this is the year it will happen. I've lost a total of 23 pounds now. That's the first 10% of my body weight. I've lost a total of 8 since starting with the naturopath in November.

Today I talked to my medical doctor about adjusting my blood pressure meds and getting off them in the future. She wasn't so positive almost one and a half years ago when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. She redeemed herself a bit today by being quite positive about that possibility.

Looking forward

I've learned that I'm the happiest when I'm working toward something. So, here are some of the goals I will be working on this year.

Physical:
Continue working with the naturopath for health and weightloss. (I've lost a total of 22 pounds from my highest weight...7.5 since starting with the naturopath. I won't tell you how many still to go.)
Floss my teeth daily.
End the year exercising 30 minutes 5 times a week.

Spiritual:
Read my scriptures daily (even if it's only one verse)
Attend the temple 12 times.

I'm also working on a few for my calling, but haven't finalized anything yet. I'll probably not post them.

Hopefully, the year of 2010 will go much better than our trip to Idaho Falls on January 1!

ZOOM!!!

Things that go "ZOOM!!!"

Christmas vacation

I can't believe school and work start tomorrow. Where did the vacation go? It went to two road trips, helping my sister move into her house, and two major holidays...in two weeks!

Time with sisters

I spent 5 wonderful days in Springville, Utah with my sisters. It was over way too quickly, (but I have to admit that another couple days, and we would have been treading on each other's nerves.) I love my sisters!

The past year!

Are you sure it's 2010 already? Isn't it February 2009 still?

21 years

Yes, 21 years went by very quickly. I was walking around BYU-Idaho Saturday wondering where the last 21 years had gone. I kept asking, "How did we get here?" LOL, I can't believe we have a 21 year old son who has served a mission and is now attending college. Crazy!

18 1/2 years

Yes, 18 1/2 years. Tim will be doing the dentist part of his mission papers this week. Also, he will be getting a hair cut and a picture taken. He wants to send his papers on January 22. How did we get here? Son number 2 getting ready for a mission!

I really wouldn't mind if things would slow down a bit.

Crazy adventures on our last road trip:

Tim, James and Hannah were going to visit my sister in Twin Falls (and her new house) and since John's stuff filled the blue van...

We decided to drive both vans as far as Twin Falls. That was well and good until I (in the blue van) noticed that something was dragging under the white van. So we finally got Tom to pull off at the weigh station 13 miles out of Boise to check it out. No problem. Just a rubber thing hanging off the bumper. He pulled it off and threw it away.

Then we were on our way again. We made it across the parking lot full of slush and the white van's serpentine belt came off. So the blue van made three trips back to Boise trying to find the right tool to get the belt back on.

Finally after 5 hours, we found TONY the TRUCKER! He had just what we needed and we were soon back on the road. Didn't have a problem the rest of the way to Twin Falls. Tony the Trucker was prayed for, and hopefully, very blessed for his helping hand.

Then 20 miles out of Idaho Falls we passed a car that had slid off the road. People were on the side of the road waving so we stopped to see what they needed. John called 911 and we tried to tell them where we were. It was a Russian family who was on their way to BYU-I (they live in Washington). We waited with the daughter until the police showed up and we could give better directions to where the car was. No one was hurt, thankfully.

So, after a 12 hour day we finally made it to Idaho Falls where we found noisy neighbors in the hotel. But we finally got a little sleep.

The next morning we found 6-8 inches of snow on the ground. We had just beat the storm to Idaho Falls. So we very carefully made our way to Rexburg on a snow packed highway. We moved John into his apartment, met some of his roommates, and explored the campus. Bought books, got his activity card, did a little shopping.

Saturday night was a parent/student luau. Fantastic! Great food and wonderful entertainment! It was so worth it. The lady we talked to while standing in line was from Carson City, Nevada and knew our friends. It's a small world. All in all it was a nice day with John.

Then after another night with noisy neighbors we drove home. We reached Twin Falls in time to attend Relief Society/Priesthood in Linda's ward. Grubers joined us at Linda's after church for lunch and then we all parted ways. We are so glad to be home and sleeping in our own beds, but we already miss John again. I guess we have to get used to it.
